Yankee Doodle Band

The Record (Greenbush Life): Yankee Doodle Band notes more than eight tuneful decades

When the members of a Rensselaer-based band put trumpets and trombones to their lips, they are continuing a tradition that began 82 years ago. That makes it the oldest American Legion band in the country.

The Fort Crailo American Legion Yankee Doodle Band, as its website notes, “traces its origins to 1927 when a group of American Legion members formed a Drum and Bugle Corps.

Sat., Oct. 10, 1pm: Columbus Day parade, Albany
Sat., Oct. 17, 9am: American Heart Association Heart Walk, Colonie NY
Sun., Nov. 8, 10am: Veterans' Service parade, Rensselaer
Tue., Nov. 11, 11:11am: Veterans' Day parade, Albany
