Times-Union: AG: State workers lied to get benefits
Six employees from area among 30 who allegedly got jobless pay illegally

ALBANY – Thirty past and present state employees were arrested for allegedly illegally collecting thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits while on the state payroll, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office said Monday.

Arrested in the Capital Region were Kira S. Young, 27, of Albany, a tax information agent for the Department of Taxation & Finance; Jean Davis, 53, of Albany, an information technology specialist for the Department of Health; Jamie Viola, 31, of Latham, an engineer tech for the Department of Transportation; Wayne Earing, 36, of Rensselaer, a security services assistant for the Division of Military and Naval Affairs; Deborah Girgenti, 55, Rensselaer, a secretary for the state Assembly; and Greg Askilden, 53, of Palenville, Greene County, a maintenance supervisor for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
